The Elk Mountains are located in western-central Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. They're known primarily for the popular outdoor destination of the Maroon Bells, a pair of peaks situated high above Maroon Lake below. The glacial lake is a known location for both outdoor recreation, as well as photographers. The Rabbit Ears Range runs through the Rocky Mountains in northern Colorado, with the popular ski destination, Steamboat Springs, at its southwestern base. With numerous hiking trails, the area is a popular getaway for many visitors and locals alike. An easy hike to Fish Creek Falls, a 283-foot waterfall, provides stunning forest scenery where eager hikers can extend their outdoor time with plenty more miles available in the trail system.
